Beer Seminars

We are launching a series of seminars with brewer and Maloney’s bartender Ron Mahler.  The sessions will run on Saturday afternoons in our private dining room.  Reservations are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.  Seats are $25 per person.  Come in and enjoy these lectures where all history, geography, agriculture, and science lead us back to one of our favorite topics- fine ales and lagers.

“What Is Malt?” Seminar October 20th, 2-4 pm

*A complete explanation of what “malt” and the malting process is

*A brief history of malt; how geography and time helped create the malts and the beers that we enjoy today

*A description on the types of malts; what processes are used to change malt and provide the wide variety that we have today

*How malt affects a beer’s body, color, and taste… and what happens to malt during the brewing process

“What Are Hops?” Seminar, November 10th, 2-4 pm

*A complete explanation of what “hops” are

*A brief history of hops; how hops came into use and how geography helped create the hops that we know today

*A description on the types of hops… and how science and market demand has changed the hop (and its varieties) to what we know today

*How hops affect a beer’s complexion; how and why hops are used throughout the brewing process
